A Blogger’s Guide to Twitter Hashtags, Part III: The Curse of Hashtag Spam

Welcome back to my series on Twitter hashtags for blogging babes! In September 2019, I am publishing a book devoted to Twitter for microbrands, bloggers, podcasters, streamers, sellers, and others who want to get the most bang for their tweets, but can’t afford a dedicated marketing employee.

I started this series for my own education, but I figured I’d share my notes along the way. Let’s get to it.

#aboutblogging

Two people use this tag for their blogs about blogging.

#artblog, #artblogger, #artblogging

From busiest to sleepiest: #artblogger, #artblog, #artblogging

#beautyblog, #beautyblogger, #beautybloggers, #beautyblogs

All are very busy. In order of post frequency, most to least: #beautyblogger, $beautybloggers, #beautyblog, #beautyblogs.

#beingablogger

Blogs about blogging, but underutilized.

#belindablogs

My twitter mutual Belinda runs this tag and I somehow didn’t realize it until just now! Follow her and use this tag for RTs.

#blackswhoblog

Busy tag, connected to this retweet account.

#blackwomenwhoblog

Mostly regrammed. Busy.

#blissbloggers

Follow them, they retweet all genres. Busy tag.

#blogbiz

Blogs about the business of blogging. Underused.

#blogdemoda

Fairly busy, probably should be for Spanish/Portuguese fashion blogs but there are other genres and languages too.

#bloggergirl

Busy, but loads of Instagram spam.

#bloggerissues, #bloggerproblems, #bloggerquestions

Those tags are also in order of frequency. Kind of just chat with a few posts and lots of Instagram in #bloggerissues.

#bloggerpowerpod

100% Instagram posts from two people.

#bloggerslife

Kinda busy, but mostly Instagram pics of their day/books/food.

#bloggerstribe

VERY busy. One of the best RT accounts in the game. Tag, don’t @

#bloggingasabusiness

Infrequently used, which is too bad. I would love to see some of those blog tips move from #bloggerswanted to here. Or to #bloggingtips. Wherever.

#bloglinkup

This is only used rarely. Linkups and the odd blogger.

#bloglovinbeauty

One person’s flatlays and not beauty posts on Bloglovin’, as I had assumed.

#blogueiro

Portuguese word for blogger. Fairly busy.

#celebrityblog, #celebrityblogger, #celebritybloggers, #celebrityblogs

#Celebrityblogger has some very niche celebrities. #Celebrityblog has lots of Instagram. #Celebritybloggers  and #celebrityblogs are ghost towns.

#cfbloggers

This tag isn’t very active. It is used not only by cruelty-free beauty bloggers, but also by this account, which only retweets blogs and vlogs occasionally.

#collegeblog, #collegeblogger, #collegebloggers, #collegeblogs

From most used to least: #collegeblogger, #collegebloggers, #collegeblog, #collegeblogs

#cricketblog, #cricketblogs

Both are infrequently used.

#disabledblogger, #disabledbloggers

#Disabledbloggers is used by more people and moves faster. There is a retweet account here.

#disneyblogger, #disneybloggers

#Disneyblogger is busier but they both get plenty of posts.

#drawingblog

Rarely used.

#entertainmentblog, #entertainmentblogs

#Entertainmentblog is mostly spam and #entertainmentblogs is barely used.

#ethicalblogger, #ethicalbloggers

These are used fairly infrequently by vegans and environmentalists. If you fall into either of those categories, bookmark #ethicalbloggers because I saw several (old) PR opportunities.

#everyblogrt

Lots of posts daily, but the retweet account doesn’t post anymore.

#fblchat

This is a busy tag. However, the Twitter account associated with it hasn’t retweeted a single blog since September.

#fdbloggers

There was a retweet account for this, but they’re long gone. Very busy food blog tag.

#fitnessblog, #fitnessblogger, #fitnessbloggers, #fitnessblogs

In order of post frequency, busiest first: #fitnessblogger, #fitnessblog, #fitnessbloggers, #fitnessblogs.

#foodblog

This tag is hoppin’, but the blogs are swamped by pictures.

#gamerbloggers

Infrequently used.

#greenbeautybloggers

Lots of spam, lots of Instagram. No blogs in sight.

#GWBChat

GWB=Girls Who Blog, but the account has been inactive since June. Tag gets a bunch of new blogs each day, but it’s mostly the same people.

#gymblogger

This is mostly one person’s Instagram, but it is used occasionally by others.

#independentblogger

Scroll a few inches down, hit 2016. I don’t know what this tag is supposed to be for. Aren’t we all indies? Is there a major blog syndicate I don’t know about?

#influencerrt

Pretty busy tag, but not linked to a retweet account. Lots of blogs, from beauty to travel to cooking, use this tag.

#inspirationalblog

Mostly the same people, over and over. Not very busy.

#internationalblogger, #internationalbloggers

#Internationalblogger is used more. Mostly travel, but other genres too.

#ironmanblog, #triathlonblog

Almost never used. What, no typing triathletes?

#latinblog, #latinblogs

For Latinx bloggers, neither are used very much.

#linkparty

Mostly bloggers advertising linkups.

#linkup

Some blog linkups, some random things. Very busy.

#madblogger

A food-related tag for Scandinavians.

#makeupblogger, #makeupbloggers

#Makeupbloggers is used more. Both have a lot of Instagram posts and spam.

#millennialblogger

Aren’t most bloggers on Twitter millennials? Not too busy though.

#mlmblog

Busy, but when you look closer it’s one blogger with a lot of sock puppets. Of course. #pyramidscheme

#motivationalblog

Not very busy, but gets more posts than #inspirationalblog.

#musicblogger, #musicbloggers

#Musicblogger is much busier and spammier.

#naturalbeautybloggers

Less than one post a day. Natural ingredient beauty products.

#nerdybloggers

This hashtag isn’t used very often, but it’s for video games, Star Trek, etc.

#photoblog, #photoblogger

#Photoblog is busier, but they both get a lot of posts.

#politicsblog

Mostly Greek, very underutilized in English.

#PRstudentblogs

For public relations students, only used rarely.

#relationshipblogger, #relationshipbloggers

#Relationshipblogger is used more, but it has a lot of quotes instead of blogs.

#runblog, #runningblog, #runningblogs

First place to third place: #runningblog, #runningblogs, #runblog

#selfcareblog

Not very busy.

#selfhelpblog

Slow.

#sexblogger, #sexbloggers, #sextoyblogger, #sextoyreviewer

#Sexbloggers is the most used, followed by #sexblogger.

#skincareblogger, #skincarebloggers

#Skincareblogger has more posts but also more spam.

#slaytheflatlay

Beauty bloggers mostly. I think this is an Instagram thing that migrated.

#soulblogsrt

Surprisingly not busy. Follow her and use this tag for a retweet.

#spooniebloggers

For chronic illness bloggers of any genre. Follow Spoonie Bloggers for a retweet.

#sportblog, #sportblogger

#Sportblog is used more.

#studentblogger, #studentbloggers

#Studentbloggers is used more.

#teenblogger

Not very busy.

#thegirlgang

The retweet account has ceased to post, but it’s still a very busy tag.

#travelinfluencer

Not that busy, not that interesting.

#travellinkup

If you’re a travel blogger, get involved in these linkups.

#wellnessblog, #wellnessblogger, #wellnessbloggers, #wellnessblogs

From most to least-used: #wellnessblogger, #wellnessbloggers, #wellnessblog, #wellnessblogs

#wineblog, #wineblogger, #winebloggers, #wineblogs

From busiest to slowest: #wineblogger, #wineblog, #winebloggers, #wineblogs. The first two are pretty busy.
